General Faith Formation Information

Preparation for and celebration of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist take place in the second grade. Confirmation is celebrated every spring with the seventh grade students. Students are expected to attend yearly catechesis to prepare themselves for Confirmation and living a life-long faith.

The elementary religious education program offers a comprehensive and developmental coverage of the basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, and the content is completely correlated to the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. Volunteers and youth ages 14 and older who would like to share their faith and enjoy being with youth are welcome to help with this ministry as catechists, sacramental preparation teachers (preparing older students who have not yet received the sacraments) or aides.

*Any child 7 years and older that has not been baptized and  would like to receive Sacraments should contact Tessa Hoffman to arrange for OCIA classes. Tessa Hoffman can be reached at 616-794-2145.

Order of Christian Initiation (O.C.I.A) for Adults

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which adults learn about the Catholic Church, have the opportunity to become a full member of the Church, and continue to explore their personal faith journey.

Our sessions consist of presentations, discussions, sharing, learning and deepening of faith. We meet with staff members and volunteer parishioners who will assist you in discovering and answering your questions about the Catholic Faith.  Individuals do not make a commitment until, along with team members, discern taking a step which we call a rite.   Since this is a process, each person’s journey is different.

We would like to extend an invitation to all adults who might be interested in becoming a full member of the Catholic Church to contact us.  We welcome people to join our  group throughout the year where we will help to answer any questions you may have about The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults.

Bible Studies

Periodically we offer, parishioner led, small group bible studies. Faith formation is a continuous journey, not just for children or those preparing for sacraments.  We encourage parishioners to try a small group bible study or try a self led bible study. Formed.org offers a large selection of studies for you to get started. Visit the Bible Studies page to explore the many options.

Continuing formation is a vital aspect of Catholic life, calling individuals to a lifelong journey of faith development. By engaging in the various opportunities available, Catholics can grow in their relationship with God and deepen their understanding of the faith.
